I love when a relatively quiet month all of a sudden turns out to be a super busy one unexpectedly! This April was definitely one of those crazy months where I seemed to be inundated with last minute requests. Here are a few of the Sweet Element projects that kept me busy this month.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of making the baby shower cake & biscotti favors for one of my best friends in CT. Another loooong delivery from NJ, but definitely worth it! The theme of the baby’s new room is forest animals & mom to be liked the baby block cake concept, so we decided on a forest animal baby block cake. The cake was red velvet, filled & frosted with vanilla moussaline buttercream. The little owl (my favorite part of the cake), was made of rice crispy treats & decorated in fondant. All block decor was in chocolate.

It’s been harder and harder to find time to keep this blog updated … this SweetElement baby shower cake was made on May 22nd for my boss’s surprise baby shower here at work – and somehow it got to be June 9th before it got posted! The expecting couple opted not to know what the sex of the baby was, thus the yellow & green ducky theme.
The bottom cake layer was a chocolate devil’s food cake filled with pastry cream and frosted in buttercream. The top cake was my boss’s favorite – red velvet cake filled with cream cheese frosting and frosted in buttercream. All decorations were fondant.
I’m happy to report that baby Trevor was born on June 2nd & mom and baby are comfortably back at home!
Here’s one of the latest SweetElement creations I made for my cousin’s wife’s baby shower. Growing up my cousin Greg’s favorite character was Winnie the Pooh, so I thought it might be a cute idea to replicate a pooh cookie jar I had seen with him digging into his favorite treat – Hunny! In addition to the cake, I also made some cupcakes decorated with hunny bees and blue buttercream since they know they are having a baby boy!

Winnie the Pooh was made of alternating layers of devil’s food cake and yellow cake filled with cookies and cream buttercream and frosted in vanilla buttercream and fondant.

Yet another SweetElement creation! A friend of my co-worker’s who planned the baby shower that I made my first jungle baby shower cake for wanted to order a similar cake with cupcakes for one of her co-workers, and here’s the result! I was fairly happy with the cupcake stand as well ~ even though it was made out of styrofoam, it was really easy to assemble and didn’t “shed” like a lot of other styrofoam products I’ve seen in the past.
The cake was a devil’s food cake filled and frosted with chocolate buttercream and decorated in chocolate and topped with fondant animals. The cupcakes were an assortment of devil’s food cake and yellow cake topped with multi-colored buttercreams.
Handmade fondant animals … too cute!
The client requested chocolate “dot” decorations that would work with the jungle theme on the cupcakes, which I think tied them together with the cake very nicely 🙂
I just realized I never posted this cake I delivered right before the holiday madness started. I thought this was one of the cutest ideas – a jungle themed baby shower! This was a ton of fun to make – and even though they were completely edible, I was happy to hear that the animals all survived the day uneaten! They are just too cute to eat, don’t ya think?
This SweetElement creation was made of yellow cake, filed and frosted with vanilla buttercream, decorated in chocolate and fondant animals.
The giraffe was definitely my favorite – look at his mane! 🙂
Here’s the latest cake from SweetElement … a yellow cake filled and frosted with chocolate hazelnut buttercream and topped with a Winnie the Pooh Baby bib.
